When the street becomes a stage – theatre returns to Šalčininkai (Lithuania).

Our summer theatre season promises to be very rich indeed. The grand opening will take place during the International Street Theatre Festival in Šalčininkai, Lithuania. On 31 May at 10:00 p.m. we will present the performance Gloria.

This spectacle has been shown at festivals across Europe and beyond – including Iran, Egypt, and Taiwan. Directed by Iaroslav Fedoryshyn, it is a production full of expression and symbols that speak to both adults and younger audiences.

The colourful dance of stilt-walkers, juggling displays, pantomime parades, and spectacular pyrotechnic effects create the unique atmosphere of street theatre. The audience is quickly swept up in the experience – the actors’ connection with the public is vivid and authentic. Yet the impressive form does not overshadow the message of the performance.

“Gloria is a very difficult story about the struggle every person faces in life,” said the director. “To tell of the beginning of everything and of humankind’s encounter with fire and water, its longing for happiness and power, we gave the leading role to ethnic music, which merges with a very contemporary expression.”

It is the sounds – full of rhythm and emotion – that become the voices of the characters in this almost mystical journey. Gloria is a performance that not only entertains, but also provokes reflection on human nature, our desires, and our place in the world.
