International theatre festival\n\u201cGolden lion\u201d unites all tendencies of the artistic and theatrical progress. It\nis shaping a positive image of the city and of the whole country on the international\ntheatrical arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The origin of the Festival dates\nback to the year 1989 when the Ukrainian Festival of alternative non-state\ntheatres was held in Lviv for the first time. These theatres were emerging on\nthe wave of reconstructing processes in our country on the basis of theatre\ngroups, schools etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The festival owns its existence to\nUkrainian Ministry of Culture, Ukrainian Theatre Union, Lviv Regional Culture\nAdministration, as well as Lviv Voskresinnia Theatre, which traditionally hosts\nthe \u00abGolden Lion\u00bb festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Festival received its present\nname \u00abGolden Lion\u00bb in 1992 when it became a full-fledged festival in Ukraine. The\nfirst festival was the festival of experiment in the theatre. The\nword\u00abexperiment\u00bb became a key word in the festival in 1994, which became the\nfirst festival of a youth experimental theatre. Since 1996 the motto of the\nfestival is \u00abClassics through experiment\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
International Theatre Festival\n\u00abGolden Lion\u00bb is a state festival which takes place every year in Lviv on the\nbasis of Theatre \u00abVoskresinnia\u00bb headed by Yaroslav Fedoryshyn. The Festival is\na member of IETM and IFEA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Festival is collaborating with\nsuch European Festivals as \u00abBitef\u00bb (Serbia), \u00abContact\u00bb(Poland), Chekhov\nFestival (Russia), \u00abNitra\u00bb (Slovakia) and many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the time of its existence the\nFestival hosted more than 4000 actors from Belarus, Turkmenistan, Lithuania,\nLatvia, Estonia, Poland, Moldova, Serbia, Slovakia, Belgium, France, the\nNetherlands, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Russia, Germany, the USA, England,\nGeorgia and other countries. A lot of famous actors and directors were\nparticipating in the festival: Ada Rohovtseva, Donatas Banionis, Rimas Tuminas,\nRoman Viktiuk, Daniel Olbryhskyi, Konstiantyn Raikin, Valentyna Talyzina,\nBohdan Stupka, Hryhoriy Hladiy and a lot of foreign producers and theatre\ncritics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Festival unites all tendencies of the artistic and theatrical progress. It is shaping a positive image of the city and of the whole country on the international theatrical arena. It also stimulates the development of the theatre in the region. The Festival helps the city to attract tourists to the city and to expose the best pieces of world culture to the audience of our country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
